In a show of exceptional performance, Competing against senior players of 26 countries, Four junior players from pune Army Public school won medals in Asia Cup Archery at Bangkok from 20 to 27 Mar 2016 said COL Vikram, who is the coach & father of Khushbu Dhayal and Digvijay Dhayal.
Khushbu and Digvijay are siblings and students of the Army Public School. They along with Manasjyoti of Army sports institute played in the compound category and Praveen Jadhav played in Recurve category.
All four of them got bronze medals in different categories. In the bronze medal matches Compound girls team defeated Thailand by 225-219 and compound boys team defeated Chinese Taipei in tie breaker after both teams scored 227 each. The Recurve boys defeated Iran.
There were around 26 teams participating in the tournament. Although this was a competition of open age group but india had sent the junior team to give them international exposure. This junior team gave admirable performance and won total 2 Gold, 1 Silver and 4 Bronze medals.
At 14 and 15 years of age Digvijay and Khushbu Dhayal were the youngest players in Indian team as well as in the tournament. Both are brother sister and had become national champions in boys n girls categories in junior national championship at Jamshedpur last month. They are training under Lt Col Vikram Dhayal who is a national level coach.
Khushbu and Digvijay gave the credit of their success to their school principal Mrs Binita poonekar for her constant motivation and strong support.
