MAHARASHTRA ANTI-TERRORISM STUMBLES 270 UNIFORM RESOURCE LOCATORS : ADG

Pune 26 July (UNI) : Pune: We have stumbled upon 270 Uniform Resource
Locators (URL), commonly known as web addresses, that deal with ISIS
doctrine said Additional Director General of Police and the
Anti-Terrorist Chief of Maharashtra Mr Atulchandra Kulkarni here this
afternoon.
The ATS Chief while speaking over phone with UNI said that we have
submitted a proposal to the Union government to block these URLs
highlighting ISIS activities, thoughts, such URLs can act as a catalyst
in encouraging the youths to join the dreaded outfit and hence, there is
an imperative need to block all these URLs as soon as possible. last
year, the previous ATS Chief Vivek Phansalkar had blocked 94 such
websites and shockingly, within a year, till date we have stumbled upon
more then 270 URLs.
Kulkarni further added that that these 270 URL mostly highlight ISIS
activities in a positive manner and we have traced these URLs and we
have sent a proposal to the Union Home Ministry to block them, the
committee of the Home ministry will take the final decision on this
issue, It is a known fact that more youths from Maharashtra are showing
interest in following these ISIS websites.
Kulkarni also added about the recent arrests of some youngsters, in
which we arrested 24-year-old youth Shahid Khan from Parbhani on charges
of allegedly having links with the ISIS, during the detection we found
that this person was holding stock of explosive material and was to
prepare a Bomb for doing some terrorist activity, on July 14, Nasir Bin
Yafi Chaus, a suspected IS operative, was arrested who is in police
custody, here also we have also seized several explosives and other
instruments from him.
While speaking on a Question raised by a Shivsena MLA During the
sesson of State Assembly, Kulkarni mentioned that, Shiv Sena MLA Rahul
Patil claimed that around 100 youths from Marathwada region have gone
missing and may have joined ISIS. After taking strong efforts to keep
watch on such websites, youths are getting more access to new websites
and continued to follow the IS agenda, it has become a big challenge for
all all government agencies and Intelligence Bureau to control such
activities in the whole country said Kulkarni .
While emphasizing on the Strategy Kulkari said that now we are
changing our strategy and adopting some new methods to tackle this
menace, besides this we are upgrading our Infrastructure and now we are
using latest technology to deal with the menace as it is need of the
hour.
While asked about the question raised in the assembly he said prima
facie, the number 100 seems to be too high which we are verifying all
aspects as we do not want to take any risk at this juncture. The State
ATS has resorted to many ways to thwart ISIS threats in the State, we
have roped many maulanas to create awareness and counseling among the
members of the minority community, now we are conducting various events
in colleges to create awareness among students, We wish to continue with
these activities which may result fruitful also we need to use more such
soft moves to reach out to the community and youths and educate them how
ISIS is harmful to them and a threat to the nation’s security, for
that we are reaching to the grass root level, our all officers are
working very hard as on 24/7 said the ADG Kulkarni. UNI XR/SP 12
