SUPREME COURT ASK CENTER TO FILE SAY IN TWO WEEKS ABOUT STEPS TAKEN FOR 5 CRORE MOBILE USERS USING BANKING ON CELL PHONES

Pune 24 Jan (PCP NEWS) : Supreme Court asked the Center to submit say in two weeks, about the steps taken for mobile phones users, which are now being used for banking purposes and which can be taken to scrutinize its existing and future users in the country,

The bench was hearing a PIL filed by NGO Lokniti Foundation seeking a direction to the Center to put in place a proper mechanism to check the authenticity of information provided by mobile users. A bench, headed by Chief Justice J S Khehar, said mobile numbers are now being used for banking purposes also and” You should tell us as to what mechanism you are going to have to scrutinize the identity of mobile users”. The verification has become more important in view of the fact that mobile phones are now being used for banking purposes also.

The apex court asked the Center to apprise it within two weeks about steps to be taken to verify identity of around 5 crore mobile users in the country The top court considered the plea of the petitioner foundation that a proper verification was indeed required as now mobile and SIM cards could be used for banking purposes also.
