Pune 04 Mar 2017 (PCP News Mumbai) : The Maharashtra government expects 5 billion Dollars Investment in Defense Sector area of the state, for this we are going to set 1000 crore rupees funds to help manufacturers from Defense Sectors of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), said Chief Minister Devendra Phadanvis, along with the Defense Minister Mr Manohar Parrikar, during the Defense and Aerospace Make with Maharashtra conference, here this afternoon.
Phadanvis, while speaking with the PCP News Correspondent further said that, Maharashtra is the first state to frame a policy for defense manufacturing after private investment has been allowed, so this fund will support MSMEs (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) in the defense sector. When we presented our draft policy before the investors and manufacturers at the “Defense and Aerospace Make with Maharashtra” conference here today, their response was positive. We will finalize it soon after incorporating today’s discussions, said the Chief Minister.
While emphasizing on the investment the Chief Minister said that, Almost 25 per cent of the total ordnance factories of India are in Maharashtra alone, manufacturers in private sector made a few suggestions, including one on treating this sector as essential services. We will take a decision on this demand after consultations with the Defense Minister. We have moved a step forward in this sector. Today defense manufacturers got to know about opportunities in Maharashtra, said Phadanvis.
Defense Minister Mr Manohar Parrikar also added that, this decision of Maharashtra Government to support defense manufacturers would be a game changer in the Defense Sector, employment will also grow, for this we have already an edge over others, said Parrikar. Phadanvis also announced unveiling of a Defense and Aerospace policy. PCP/DJ 13 30
